Health Tips

Flu

You can now find many over-the-counter preparations that claim to alleviate the symptoms of flu. These medicines are basically the same ones that are marketed for colds and neither work to cure the virus that causes the flu. Like colds, flus will generally run their course and go away by themselves.

Weight Loss

  1. When you've been successfully eating less and moving more, don't become frustrated if your weight on the bathroom scales stops going down. There are other numbers to measure for success. If these numbers are high - blood pressure, blood sugar and triglyerides (blood fats) - you might see them drop more easily than your body weight. Know your numbers and track them for success.
  2. Want to save carbs and calories from your sandwich? Try substituting a leaf of dark green (Romaine) lettuce for the upper slice of bread. The lettuce provides a vegetable boost, and a way to keep your fingers clean when picking up your sandwich for a bite.
  3. Add some pizzazz to raw vegetables by using reduced-calorie salad dressing as a dip. Just a small amount of dressing makes the vegetables tastier, so you're likely to eat more of them.
  4. Trying to cut a sugary breakfast cereal habit? Think outside the box by mixing a little bit of unsweetened whole grain dry cereal into the sweetened variety. Gradually increase the healthier portion of cereal in the mix.
